Künker sale 335, lot 4013

This specimen was lot 4013 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €550 (about US$720 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÜBECK, STADT. 1/2 Mark 1549. RR Schöne Patina, Prägeschwäche, sehr schön. (Germany, city of Lubeck, half mark of 1549. Rare, nice patina, slightly weak strike, very fine.)"

This denomination confuses us as it is between the quarter thaler and half thaler in weight. It may have been one-third thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 9.31 g.

Catalog reference: Behrens 77 b.
