This specimen was lot 664 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Lowenstein-Wertheim-Virneburg. Taler, 1697-FS. Heinrich Friedrich (1683-1721). NGC AU-58. Finest certified example. Very scarce. Mottled toning with iridescent hues. Nice features and interesting depictions make this a uniquely appealing piece. From the Rockaway Collection." This is the only thaler of the seventeenth century from this insignificant locale wedged between Mainz and Wurzburg.
