Wertheim in 1789

This specimen was lot 998 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €420 (about US$543 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÖWENSTEIN-WERTHEIM-ROCHEFORT, FÜRSTENTUM Karl Thomas, 1735-1789. Konv.-Taler 1769, Wertheim. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, kl. Tuscheziffer "2" im Feld der Vorderseite, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, principality of Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort, Charles Thomas, 1735-89, convention thaler of 1769, Wertheim mint. Attractive example with toning, "2" inked on the obverse, choice extremely fine.)"

This otherwise insignificant principality issued a series of thalers in 1766-69 (Dav-2402 thru -2408B). It was mediatized in 1806 and partitioned between Baden and Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.
