Wertheim in 1789

This specimen was lot 982 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÖWENSTEIN, LÖWENSTEIN-WERTHEIM-ROCHEFORT, GRAFSCHAFT, Karl Thomas, 1735-1789. Konv.-Taler 1767, Nürnberg. Von größter Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort, Charles Thomas, 1735-89, convention thaler of 1767, Nuremberg mint. Very rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This otherwise insignificant principality issued a series of thalers in 1766-69 (Dav-2402 thru -2408B). It was mediatized in 1806 and partitioned between Baden and Bavaria. Both the SCWC and Davenport mention this time for 1766 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.

Specification: silver.
