Wertheim in 1789

This specimen was lot 993 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÖWENSTEIN-WERTHEIM-ROCHEFORT, FÜRSTENTUM Karl Thomas, 1735-1789. Konv.-Taler 1767, Wertheim. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, principality of Lowenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort, Charles Thomas, 1735-89, convention thaler of 1767, Wertheim mint. Attractive example with toning, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This otherwise insignificant principality issued a series of thalers in 1766-69 (Dav-2402 thru -2408B). It was mediatized in 1806 and partitioned between Baden and Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
