Lithuania 2001 50 litu KM-130
This specimen was lot 3221 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "LITHUANIA: Republic, AR 10 zlotych, 1997, Jonas Basanavicius, mintage of only 2,000 pieces, with numbered certificate, Proof, S." The normally infallible cataloguers got the date and denomination wrong on this lot. This NCLT was struck along with KM 129 honoring the bicentennial of Motiejus Valančius. It was demonetized in 2015, when Lithuania joined the euro. Wikipedia comments, "Jonas Basanavičius (1851-1927) was an activist and proponent of the Lithuanian National Revival. He participated in every major event leading to the independent Lithuanian state and is often given the informal honorific title of the "Patriarch of the Nation" (Lithuanian: tautos patriarchas) for his contributions."
Recorded mintage: 2,000.
Specification: 28.28 g, 00.925 fine silver, 38.61 mm diameter, edge lettered KAD AUŠRAI AUŠTANT PRAŠVISTU IR LIETUVOS DVASIA.
Catalog reference: KM-130.
