This specimen was lot 905 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIPPE-DETMOLD: Simon August, 1734-1782, AR 2/3 thaler, 1765, once lightly cleaned and retoned, VF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." Another gulden struck in 1765 (KM 186) commemorated the prince's second marriage. Both are rare. Lippe-Detmold's army allegedly comprised the count, one colonel and one private. The state's weakness--nobody else wanted it--probably enabled its survival until 1918.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 13.86 g, silver.
Catalog reference: KM-187.
