Künker sale 386, lot 5306

This specimen was lot 5306 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €460 (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIPPE, GRAFSCHAFT, SEIT 1789 FÜRSTENTUM, Simon August, 1734-1782. 1/6 Taler 1765, Detmold. Münzmeister Johann Conrad Bandel. Stempelschneider Daniel Stürmer. Feine Patina, min. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (county of Lippe, Simon Augustus, 1734-82, one-sixth thaler of 1765, Detmold mint. Fine patina, minor planchet flaws, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1765-70 and, like all coinage from this tiny state before unification in 1871, is rare.
