Liechtenstein 1778 thaler Dav-1580
This specimen was lot 3771 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$840 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LIECHTENSTEIN, Franz Joseph 1772-1781 Taler 1778. Wien. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, principality of Liechtenstein, Francis Joseph, 1772-81, thaler of 1778, Vienna mint. Good very fine.)"
This one-year type struck in Vienna for Liechtenstein is scarce and expensive but is the most common of the three issues recorded for the eighteenth century. The princes of Liechtenstein are not recorded as having visited their realm until after World War One.
