Liechtenstein 1758 thaler Dav-1579
This specimen was lot 1126 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 1650 CHF (about US$1,882 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LIECHTENSTEIN Joseph Wenzel, 1748-1772 Taler 1758, Wien. Geharnischtes Brustbild mit langen Haaren nach rechts. Rv. Gekröntes Wappen zwischen Engeln die Palmzweige und die Vliesordenskette halten. Gutes vorzüglich." (Liechtenstein, Joseph Wenzel, 1748-72 thaler of 1758, Vienna mint. Obverse: armored bust with long hair facing right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two cupids holding palm branches and the Order of the Golden Fleece. Good Extremely Fine.)
This one-year type struck in Vienna for Liechtenstein is rare and expensive. It was accompanied by a half thaler (KM C1) and a ducat (KM C3). The princes of Liechtenstein are not recorded as having visited their realm until after World War One.
