This specimen was part of lot 3768 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Kiribati. 10 Dollars, 1984. For the 5th Anniversary of Independence. Map of the Pacific. Mintage of only 50 pieces. PCGS graded Proof 65 Deep Cameo." Kiribati, formerly the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, is a group of coral islands in the Pacific. It was the scene of some of the fiercest battles of World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 50 proofs plus 2,500 proofs struck in silver.

Specification: 47.52 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.4009 troy oz AGW.
