This specimen was part of lot 3547 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunei. 1000 Dollars, 1984. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Reverse: Government building. Mintage 1000 pieces. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo." Unlike many of her neighbors, Brunei on the island of Borneo has become wealthy on the deposits of oil and natural gas. The area was formerly a British colony.

Recorded mintage: 4,000 plus 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 50 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.474 troy oz AGW.
