This specimen was lot 22710 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it did not sell. It was offered again as lot 70568 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Kaufbeuren. Taler, 1543. PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Struck in the name of Charles V. Quite SCARCE." This obscure Swabian town is of no interest to numismatists except for a series of thalers (Dav-9344 thru -9355) struck 1540-52. These were struck nearly a century before its much larger neighbor, Augsburg, struck any thalers. The region is now part of Bavaria.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
