Kaufbeuren in 1547, between Kempten and Biberach, from Putzger's Atlas

This specimen was lot 1938 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,340 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAUFBEUREN, STADT, Goldkrone o. J. (1545/1548), mit Titel Karls V. GOLD. Min. gewellt, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Kaufbeuren, undated gold crown, struck in the name of Charles V. Slightly wavy, about extremely fine.)"

The city of Kaufbeuren, near Augsburg, issued a short series of gold coins in the sixteenth century (Fr-1417 thru -1420), all rare. This one is probably the most available.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3,21 g.
