Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 966

This specimen was lot 966 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $154.70. The catalog description[1] noted, "Japan, 10 sen, Meiji 20 (1887), NGC MS 67. Frosty and bright with no marks at all, much higher quality than average (most seen by NGC graded around MS 64), in fact tied with eleven others for second finest in the NGC census behind a single MS 68." This type, roughly equal to a dime, was struck 1873-1906 and is common in all grades. The superseding type (KM Y29), issued 1907-12, was 2.25 g, 0.720 fine silver. The last silver ten sen was struck in 1917.
