Stephen Album sale 43, lot 2103

This specimen was lot 2103 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR 10 sen, year 21 (1888), a superb lightly toned example! PCGS graded MS65, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type, roughly equal to a dime, was struck 1873-77, 1880, 1885-88, 1891-1906 and is common in all grades. The superseding type (KM Y29), issued 1907-12, was 2.25 g, 0.720 fine silver. The last silver ten sen was struck in 1917.

Recorded mintage: 8,177,229.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.800 fine silver, 17.6 mm diameter.
