This specimen was lot 45212 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. Sen, Year 21 (1888). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. A sharply struck Sen with unusually bold red to green toning on the obverse." This type was struck 1880-92 in large numbers and is common in circulated condition. This weight standard was used until 1915.
