Künker Auction 425, lot 1712

This specimen was lot 1712 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,416 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · KÖNIGREICH ITALIEN Victor Emanuel II., 1859-1861-1878. 5 Lire 1862 T, Turin. Fast vorzüglich. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung AU 58. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel II, 1861-78, five lire of 1862, Turin mint. About extremely fine, graded NGC AU-58.)"

This type, struck as the kingdom of Italy was assembled from its constituent pieces, is known from Milan, Naples, Rome and Turin (shown here). Many dates are common but this one is scarce, verging on rare.

Recorded mintage: 51,036.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, lettered edge.
