Jean Elsen sale 150, lot 1593

This specimen was lot 1593 in Jean Elsen sale 150 (Brussels, March 2022), where it sold for €180 (about US$239 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, Royaume, Victor Emmanuel II (1861-1878), AR 5 lire, 1861T, Turin. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel II, 1861-78, silver five lire of 1861, Turin mint. Rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"

This type was struck at Turin 1861-62 and 1865 in the early years of the unification of Italy. This type was also struck at Naples (1862-66), Milan (1869-75) and Rome (1870-78). This is a rare date.

Recorded mintage: 160,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.
