Sincona sale 11, lot 1699

This specimen was lot 1699 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it was withdrawn. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Königreich Vittorio Emanuele II. 1859-1878. 5 Lire 1862, Neapel. Fast FDC aus Polierter Platte. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel II, 1859-78, five lire of 1862, Naples mint, proof.)"

As part of the general Italian unification of 1859-61, the Sardinians took over the Naples mint and coined five lire there 1862-66. The mint closed in 1867. This specimen lacks the "BN" normally found on the reverse and may be a pattern.

Recorded mintage: 142,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 25.12 g.
