Sincona sale 38, lot 1480

This specimen was lot 1480 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Vittorio Emanuele II. 1859-1878 20 Lire 1861 T. Torino B in Schild. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleiner Randfehler. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel II, 1859-78, gold twenty lire of 1861, Turin mint. Very fine-extremely fine, Minor edge nick.)"

This type was struck at the Turin mint 1861-70 during the reign of Victorio Emanuele II of Italy. It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French gold twenty francs. This is a scarce date, especially compared to the common dates of 1862-65. The accompanying ten lire is very rare.

Recorded mintage: 3,267.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 6.43 g.

Catalog reference: Nomisma 847, Schl. 38, Fr-11, KM 10.1.
