from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73073

This specimen was lot 73073 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "ISRAEL. 500 Pruta, 1949. NGC MS-65. According to the SCWC this issue was never released into circulation. The coin exhibits a sharp strike with smooth satiny surfaces and thin veneer of tone." This one year type was accompanied by one pruta (KM 9), 5 pruta (KM 10), 10 pruta (KM 11), 25 pruta (KM 12), 50 pruta, 100 pruta (KM 14) and 250 pruta (KM 15). Rapid inflation destroyed the value of this series and the coinage was reformed in 1960.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, 37.1 mm diameter.
