Ireland 1964 6 pence

formerly in the Mountain Groan Collection

The first Irish sixpence, issued 1928-35, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second (KM 15), issued 1939-40, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (shown here), issued 1942-69, was copper-nickel. The reverse depicts an Irish wolfhound. This date is common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: 6,000,000.

Specification: 4.54 g, 20.8 mm diameter, copper-nickel.
