This type was struck at the Royal Mint for Ireland 1951, 1954-55, 1959, 1962-68. It superseded a silver type (KM 14). All dates are common and proofs exist for many dates altho not for 1966. It was worth five new pence after the decimal conversion and demonetized in 1993. The reverse depicts a bull, honoring Irish cattle raising.

Recorded mintage: 3,000, 000.

Specification: 5.85 g, copper-nickel, 23.6 mm diameter, designed by Percy Metcalfe.
