The first Irish sixpence, issued 1928-35, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second (KM 15), issued 1939-40, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (shown here), issued 1942-69, was copper-nickel. The reverse depicts an Irish wolfhound. This date is common tho the proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 2,020,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 4.54 g, 20.8 mm diameter, copper-nickel.
