This specimen was lot 21228 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. 6 Pence, 1955. NGC PROOF-66 Cameo. A RARE modern issue that seldom appears on the market. Sharply struck with hard reflective surfaces and frosted devices. Free of tone, haze or fog." The first Irish sixpence, issued 1928-35, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second (KM 15), issued 1939-40, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (shown here), issued 1942-69, was copper-nickel. The reverse depicts an Irish wolfhound. This date is common tho the proofs are rare.

Recorded mintage: 600,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 4.54 g, copper-nickel, 20.6 mm diameter.
