Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 45124

This specimen was lot 45124 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. 1/2 Crown, 1955. NGC MS-66. A handsome, fully lustrous coin with even dark gray to almond toning throughout." The subsequent and final type (KM 16a), issued 1951-67, was copper-nickel. This date is not rare but is slightly better compared to the issues of the sixties. The race horse depicted honors Irish agriculture.

Recorded mintage: 1,080,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 14.14 g, copper-nickel, 32.3 mm diameter.
