The first Irish florins (= two shillings), issued 1928-37, featured the obverse legend "SAORSTAT EIREANN"; the second (KM 15), issued 1939-43, merely stated "EIRE." The subsequent and final type (shown here), issued 1951-69, was copper-nickel. The reverse depicts a salmon, a fish common in Irish rivers. This date is common tho the proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 2,000,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 11.31 g, 28.5 mm diameter, copper-nickel.
