Ireland SB517-72480r.jpg

British issues for Ireland in the nineteenth century were erratic and sparse. The only ones that can be called common are the half pennies and pennies of 1805 and the farthings of 1806. These were later restruck in silver, gold, gilt copper and bronzed copper. These were produced by Boulton and Watt under contract. This specimen was lot 72480 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. Penny, 1805. PCGS PROOF-64. Bronzed with engrailed edge. Sharply struck with attractive chocolate brown surfaces."

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-148.1; S-6620.
