This specimen was lot 24126 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. "Ormonde" Twopence (Halfgroat), ND (1643-44). Earl of Ormunde, Lieutenant of Ireland (1643-49). PCGS VF-35 Secure Holder. The Great Rebellion Coinage - Lords Justices Coinage - Ormonde Coinage. A nice problem free example of a RARE denomination normally found in less than desirable condition. Nice full even strike with excellent details of the design. Attractive old cabinet tone. Unusually quality and highly prized as such. Ex: Whyte's Auction 09/00, lot# 365 with lot tag and collectors ticket." The Earl of Ormonde, as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, issued crowns, half crowns, shillings, sixpences, groats, threepences and halfgroats (shown here) on behalf of the doomed Charles I. The crowns are the best known but none are common.
