Iran SH1339 1/4 pahlavi
This specimen was lot 2936 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$161 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi Shah, 1320-1358 SH (1941-1979). 1/4 Pahlavi 1339 SH (1960), Fast FDC (About uncirculated)." This type, struck SH 1336-1352 during the reign of Muhammed Reza Shah (r. 1941-79), was minted to the standard of one fourth of a British sovereign. It has a slightly larger diameter than the prior type (KM 1160) which had persistent striking weakness. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
