This specimen was lot 32654 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran: Muhammad Reza Pahlavi Shah gold 2-1/2 Pahlavi SH 1339 (1960) MS65+ NGC, Tehran mint. A veritable bonanza of luster with die polish enhancing the already sleek appeal." This denomination, equal to 2½ British sovereigns, was struck intermittently 1959-79. Gold half, one, five (Fr-99) and ten pahlavis also exist. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
