Iran SH1307 100 dinars

Steve Album sale 39, lot 1316

This specimen was lot 1316 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $300. The catalog description^[1] noted, "IRAN: Reza Shah, 1925-1941, 100 dinars, SH1307, AD date on label wrong, brilliant luster, a lovely example! PCGS graded Specimen 66, RR, ex King 's Norton Mint Collection." The Qajar empire was nearly bankrupt by the end of the 1800’s, and the dynasty finally fell when Reza Khan, a commander of the Persian Cossack Brigade, led a coup d’etat and launched the Pahlavi Dynasty in 1925 AD. This copper-nickel coin is listed for SH1305 and SH1307 and was the smallest denomination issued by the new regime. This denomination was accompanied by a 500 dinars (KM 1102), 1000 dinars (KM 1103), 2000 dinars (KM 1104) and 5000 dinars (KM 1106).
