The first specimen was lot 4102 in Sincona sale 67 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$1,975 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Manually produced gold coinage. 2 Tomân 1281 H., Mashhad (Mashhad-i Imâm ar-Ridâ). Tughra with name and title in wreath, rev. mint and date in wreath. Uncirculated."

The second specimen was lot 1430 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $3,240. The catalog description[2] noted, "Iran. 2 Toman, AH1281 (1864). Nasir al-Din Shah. Rare type. NGC graded Uncirculated Detail (Bent)." The SCWC lists double tomans from three mints, including Kirmanshahan (KM-859), Mashhad (shown here) and Tabriz. All are rare. When milled coinage was introduced, the weight of the double toman was reduced to 5.75 g.
