India 1972-B rupee

from the MOuntain Groan Collection

After independence in 1947-48, the British rupee was withdrawn and replaced by a note. One rupee coins were struck 1952, 1954, 1962, 1964, 1969 but never on a production basis. This type was struck for circulation in India 1970 only and for the proof sets of 1970-74. In 1982, US$1 = 9.3 rupees; today (July 2022), one US dollar = 79 rupees.

Recorded mintage: 7,895 proofs.

Specification: 10 g, nickel, 28 mm diameter.
