This specimen was lot 906 in Stephen Album sale 41 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, 4 annas, 1920(c), proof restrike, PCGS graded Proof 63." This four annas was struck at the Bombay mint after World War One. A wartime surge in the price of silver prompted the British authorities to replace the silver quarter rupee with this copper-nickel type. It must not have been a success as it was dropped after only three years (1919-21). Likewise, the copper-nickel eight annas was abandoned after 1920.

Recorded mintage: 18,191,000 + restrikes.

Specification: 6.50 g, copper-nickel.

Catalog reference: KM-519, S&W-8.187.
