This specimen was lot 1995 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA: George V, 1910-1936, AR ½ rupee, 1916(c), a superb lustrous example! PCGS graded MS65." This half rupee was struck at the Calcutta mint in the middle of World War One. It was never minted in the immense numbers of the George V rupees but it is not rare, being struck steadily 1912-30, 1933-36. This date is common. The minting of rupees effectively ceased after 1922.
Recorded mintage: 3,644,000 plus proofs and restrikes plus 5,880,000 from Bombay.
