This specimen was lot 42238 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/2 Pice, 1895-(C). Calcutta Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown." This type was struck 1877-78 and 1885-1901 in moderate quantities and was worth one-eighth of an anna. Calcutta was the sole producer.
Recorded mintage: 9,874,000 plus proofs.
