SB924-75083r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75083 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mint Error -- Struck 15% Off-Center -- 1/4 Rupee, 1892-B. Bombay Mint. Victoria. NGC Fine Details--Reverse Damage. This curious silver minor is rather obviously off-center on both sides yet retains all its identifying detail. A small and shallow gouge on the reverse accounts for the designation but is hardly a distraction for this interesting example." This is a common date of a type struck 1877-1901. For this date, the mintmark, found on the topmost flower, is incuse.

Recorded mintage: 4,059,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-490; S&W-6.311; Prid-427.
