The first specimen was lot 3621 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $141. The catalog description[1] noted, "British India. ¼ Anna, 1889 (C). Victoria. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown." This type was struck at Calcutta 1877-1901 and at Bombay 1877-89 and is common. This specimen sold for 2½ times the catalog value.
Recorded mintage: 88,559,000 plus restrikes plus 19,110,000 from Bombay.
Specifications: 6.4 g, copper, 25.16 mm diameter.
