Sincona sale 97, lot 1612

This specimen was lot 1612 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 462 CHF (about US$670 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"East India Company Victoria, 1837-1901. 1/4 Anna 1888, Calcutta. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC MS63 BN. Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (India, Victoria, 1837-1901, quarter anna of 1888, Calcutta mint. Very rare in this condition, Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC.)"

This type was struck at Calcutta 1877-1901 and at Bombay 1877-89 and is common. This specimen sold for eleven times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 34,531,000.
