This specimen was lot 73700 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/4 Anna, 1889-(B). Bombay Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-63 Brown. Choice Mint State, and quite scarce at this grade level. Mostly pinkish orange surfaces with a mark free and portrait, plus a zesty brilliant flash to the fields." This type was struck at Calcutta 1877-1901 and at Bombay 1877-89 and is common.
Recorded mintage: 19,110,000 plus 88,559,000 from Calcutta.
