This specimen was lot 56539 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. 1/12 Anna, 1877-(B). Bombay Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown." This type was issued at Calcutta and Bombay 1877-1901 in a bewildering array of varieties, including proofs, off-metal strikes and restrikes. The type is the smallest copper denomination, worth 1/192 rupee. It is distinguished from the type issued 1862-76 by the obverse legend, "VICTORIA EMPRESS" instead of "VICTORIA QUEEN."
Recorded mintage: 1,551,000 plus proofs, a common date.
