India 1877(c) mohur
This specimen was lot 31399 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "British India. Victoria gold Mohur 1877-(c) MS61 NGC, Calcutta mint. An ever-desirable type from the first year of issue, especially in Mint State condition. Lightly toned, with wholly original surfaces." This type was issued at Calcutta and Bombay 1877-1891 in a bewildering array of varieties, including proofs, off-metal strikes and restrikes. The type is the largest gold denomination. It is distinguished from the type issued 1862-75 by the obverse legend, "VICTORIA EMPRESS" instead of "VICTORIA QUEEN."
