This specimen was lot 31378 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "People's Republic gold Proof 'Ignaz Semmelweis' 500 Forint 1968-BP PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. A large gold Proof issued in commemoration of Ignaz Semmelweis, a Hungarian physician who pioneered early antiseptic procedures." Accompanying this issue is a 200 forint (KM 586, gold), 100 forint (KM 584, silver, and KM 585, gold) and 50 forint (KM 582, silver, and KM 583, gold).
Recorded mintage: 9,000, all proofs.
Specification: 42.05 g, 0.900 fine gold, 1.2168 troy oz AGW.
