Hungary went thru many vicissitudes after the collapse of the Dual Monarchy in 1918. Hungary became independent but was shorn of its territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia. She fell under the dictatorship of Admiral Horthy and was a reluctant ally of Germany during World War Two, for which she was devastated by the Russian Red Army. This coin was issued during Communist rule (1949-89) and was accompanied by a silver 50 forint (KM 582), gold 100 forint (KM 585), gold 50 forint (KM 583), 200 forint (KM 586) and 500 forint (KM 587).

Recorded mintage: 20,750 + 4,750 proofs.

Specification: 28 g, 0.640 fine silver.
