This specimen was lot 31109 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $4,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hungary: Republic gold Proof "Ignaz Semmelweis" 1000 Forint 1968-BP PR63 Ultra Cameo NGC, Budapest mint. Struck to memorialize the contributions of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis to the medical field and commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth, this large issue highlights his bust with highly reflective fields and frosted central motifs. From the Paramount Collection." This is the largest of a series of commemoratives honoring the Hungarian doctor who made pregnancy safe.
