Hungary SB117-6753r.jpg

This specimen was lot 6753 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $329. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Ducat, 1869-GYF. Karlsburg Mint. PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details Secure Holder. Two year type. Bag marks in fields with a few heavier small peck marks, slightly bent. Remaining luster in outer legends. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." This type of 1868-69 is rather scarcer than prior types despite the substantial mintage. Ducats were struck for Hungary as late as 1881 but this is likely to be the last issue of the Karlsburg mint.

Recorded mintage: 270,425 plus 106,614 with "KB" mintmark.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 19.8 mm diameter.
