This specimen was lot 1700 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. 10 Krajczár 1867, B, Kremnitz. (Empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ten kreuzer of 1867, Kremnitz mint, with plain edge. Rare, only 1,000 pieces made, handsome patina, about uncirculated. After the Austro-Hungarian settlement of 1867 and the associated Restoration of the Hungarian constitution of 1848, these pieces, which were often designated as patterns, were distributed to the members of the Hungarian Reichstag in Budapest in February 1867 at the opening of parliament. Also in the catalog of Peter Jaeckel, these specimens are described as sample impressions.)"
This type was issued for Hungary in 1867 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. A similar type with the "KB" mintmark was struck 1868-69 and with a revised reverse 1870-77 and 1887-88 (KM 451.1). After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
Recorded mintage: 1,000.
