Sincona sale 77, lot 2953

This specimen was lot 2953 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$304 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Forint 1868 KB, Kremnitz. Vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (empire of Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, florin of 1868, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine, Small scratches.)"

After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. Florins of the imperial type were struck 1867-72 at Vienna (mintmark A), Kremnitz (B) and Karlsburg (E). This forint, with a different reverse, was struck 1868-69 only for Hungary.

Recorded mintage: 573,584, a common date.

Specification: 12.35 g, 0.900 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 12.32 g.
